Four Hospitalized After Car Crash in Fresno
Four parties were hospitalized after a high-speed car crash in southwest Fresno on the afternoon of Thursday, June 4, 2020. The car accident occurred at the intersection of Thorne Avenue and Whitesbridge Avenue, the Fresno Police Department (Fresno PD) reported. Video surveillance shows a pickup truck exiting out of a parking lot and onto the road when a speeding Chevrolet Camaro broadsides the vehicle at the intersection, causing the Chevrolet to overturn several times. The store owner of A&M Westside Market and a patron ran to the scene. They helped remove a passenger who was trapped inside the pickup after the collision. The driver and passenger of the Camaro were able to exit the vehicle on their own before it engulfed in flames. The pickup driver was able to escape out of his truck on his own after the T-bone collision. The four parties involved in the car crash were hospitalized at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno for minor to moderate injuries, according to the Fresno Fire Department. All four are expected to survive their injuries.
How Serious Are T-Bone Accidents?
Injuries from a broadside collision may be catastrophic in nature, which can be debilitating and last for the remainder of an individual’s life. Following are some of the common types of injuries that may result after a serious T-bone accident:
- Bone Fractures: A broken bone may require a long time to recover, which may prevent an individual from returning to work for an extended period.
- Burn Injury: A T-bone collision may cause painful burn injuries if a vehicle catches fire. First and second-degree burns can hurt and will need medical care. However, serious burn injuries will require immediate medical attention since they may result in nerve damage or even amputation in some extreme cases.
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): The impact of a broadside collision has the potential to cause head injuries or brain damage that may affect memory or cognitive abilities. A TBI will generally require medical attention and may require extensive treatment to heal.
- Spinal Cord Injury: Trauma to the spinal cord may result in issues with mobility or even paralysis.
Any of the injuries mentioned above may leave an injured party with mounting medical expenses, chronic pain, the inability to work for a while, or the need for long-term prescription medication or medical equipment. What is a Personal Injury Case and How Can it Help After a Fresno Car Crash?
In a personal injury claim, compensation is provided to a person who was injured by a negligent party or entity in an accident. Damages come in two types, economic and noneconomic, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Personal injury claims are generally paid by the at-fault party’s insurance company through negotiations. However, insurance carriers are not always fair when it comes to offering fair compensation for car accident injury cases. When this happens, a lawsuit will need to be filed within California’s two-year statute of limitations if all attempts fail at a fair settlement within the first two years of an accident. This serves to protect the statute and the injured person’s right to financial recovery.
