Four Hospitalized After Red Bluff Area Trucking Crash
Officers of California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that multiple people suffered serious injuries during an auto accident involving a semi truck that took place near Red Bluff on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. The accident involved two vehicles and left a total of four people with injuries requiring treatment at an area hospital. So far, updates on the conditions of the injured parties haven’t been provided by medical officials. Additionally, CHP still has this incident under investigation as they attempt to determine what factors were involved.
Crash Details
The accident reportedly happened at about 1:00 p.m. Authorities stated that a passenger vehicle caught fire while heading north on Highway Interstate 5 near the Flores exit south of Red Bluff. After catching fire, the car was struck by a large tractor-trailer that had been traveling behind it. The impact of the crash caused the big rig to travel off of the roadway. Together, the two vehicles blocked all northbound lanes of the highway according to reports from CalTrans.
CHP dispatched response officials to the collision scene directly after being notified about the accident. Upon arriving at the accident site, officers discovered that four people had suffered significant injuries. While the identities of the injured people were not specified, police reported that all four were transported to local hospitals by ground ambulances.
Investigation
The highway was closed to traffic in the area near Giles Road while police emergency response was underway and remained shut down while investigators conducted a preliminary investigation of the scene. So far, officers have not released a report regarding what factors they suspect may have been involved. Accidents such as this one are often caused by auto product defects, but can also involve driver distraction, DUI, speeding, roadway hazards, and more.
Trucking Accidents
Commercial trucks are an important part of California’s economy and are a common sight on local highways. However, these vehicles present a serious risk and can cause major damages in the event of an accident. Because of their large size, collisions that involve a big rig are much more likely to cause severe or fatal injuries. Trucking companies are aware of this and are typically prepared to take action right away if one of their vehicles is involved in a crash.
Because trucking companies are so quick to act after collisions, contacting a lawyer as soon as you can is very important. The sooner that a Red Bluff personal injury lawyer is able to begin investigating and preparing your case, the better they can ensure that you are able to claim the payments you deserve for the full amount of damages you have suffered.
