Four People Injured in Car Accident

In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 4, 2017, a critical injury accident involving up to four cars took place on Highway 4 near Pittsburg, CA. More details appear below.

Four Vehicle Accident Shuts Down Highway 4 Lane

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the car wreck was called in at approximately 2:50 a.m. There were additional reports of a possible one-car rollover located west of San Marco Boulevard, with one person potentially ejected from the vehicle. It is important to note that the agency official was unable to verify the accuracy of this report, as it came from someone who was not in the agency.

As many as four cars were involved in this collision. A Contra Costa County fire district official made a statement saying that four people had to be transferred to nearby hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries. Of the four people hospitalized, one was determined to be in critical condition.

As a result of the accident, one lane was closed on the eastbound path of Highway 4. CHP officials said that all lanes were open for travel as of 5:05 a.m.

Ongoing Investigation

Officials are currently in the process of investigating this collision in hopes of determining the underlying factors that potentially contributed to the cause of the accident. CHP authorities have yet to report if they suspect driving under the influence to be a factor in the accident. Other potential causal factors are speeding, defective roadway signage, distracted driving, risky lane switch maneuvers, and much more.

How Multi-Car Wrecks Occur

Vehicular accidents involving two or more cars tend to follow a pattern in the way which they occur. The first way these accidents commonly occur is by a car in the front slowing down or coming to a stop and then getting rear-ended by vehicles behind them. Another common occurrence is when one vehicle rear-ends a car in the road, sending that front car in a rapid momentum that causes them to collide into other cars.

Tips to Stay Safe

  • Allow plenty of time to get to and from your destination. This way you can resist the urge to drive too fast.
  • Provide ample space between you and the car in front of you. This way you will have plenty of time to stop and avoid hitting others.
  • Leave the phone alone while you drive. This way you will be able to enjoy a safer ride on our roadways.
  • Avoid any other activities that take your eyes off the road.
  • Keep you vehicle in a good state of repair.
  • Do not drink and drive. Do not drive high.
  • Do not drive while taking prescription or other dangerous drugs.
