Fresno County Accident Fatality

A Fresno County accident fatality occurred recently along Gettysburg Avenue and Ashlan Avenue in Clovis. A Toyota Prius reportedly struck the driver’s door of a Honda Civic shortly before 10:00 in the morning. The impact of the collision caused the Honda to overturn onto the roof. Emergency crews were called to the scene to extricate the man driving the Honda out of the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The decedent has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Gregory Labiak, a 72-year-old resident of Clovis. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Labiak during their time of loss.

Common Injuries in a Broadside Accident

Broadside accidents often occur in parking lots and at intersections, where vehicles are traveling perpendicular to one another. These types of crashes typically happen when a driver runs a stop sign or stop light or fails to yield the right-of-way to another vehicle. Since the sides of motor vehicles offer less protection in a broadside collision, these crashes are likely to cause traumatic injuries for those involved. These may include broken bones, cervical sprain, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord damage, and wrongful death in some extreme cases.

Rollover Accidents and Wrongful Death

An auto accident can be a devastating event in a person’s life. This is especially true when it involves a rollover fatality. While any vehicle is susceptible to overturning, other factors may come into play such as speed, vehicle design, tire grip, and trips. Other factors are also known to cause serious injuries or death in these types of car accidents, including crushed vehicle roofs. Automakers are responsible for meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216 for roof crush resistance. Vehicle roofs are expected to be manufactured in a way that they are able to support 1.5 times the car’s weight. When a car roof collapses in a rollover and fails to meet safety standards, the automaker may be held liable for wrongful death damages through an auto products liability claim. As with any case of wrongful death, negligence must be proven on the part of another driver or entity. To learn how fault is determined in a wrongful death case, watch the following video.

How a Wrongful Death Lawyer Can Help

Coping with the loss of a family member can be overwhelming. As a family focuses on trying to find peace amidst their loss, an experienced wrongful death lawyer in Fresno can handle the legal aspects of a wrongful death claim. An attorney can build a case for compensation to recover resultant losses from a loved one’s wrongful death. While nothing can bring a loved one back, compensation can help alleviate many of the stressful situations and worries brought on by the loss.
