What to Know About Woodbridge

Woodbridge is a small, charming town in San Joaquin County. It is a suburb of Stockton, located on the northwest side of Lodi. Although this tiny town isn’t as well known as its neighboring cities, it is worth getting to know. Woodbridge is rich in history and full of life. It is listed as a California Historical Landmark.

The History of Woodbridge, CA

Woodbridge was founded by Jeremiah Woods and Alexander McQueen in 1852. In 1858, the duo built a wooden bridge, known as Wood’s Bridge, across the Mokelumne River. The community later took on the name Woodbridge.

Woodbridge later became an educational center. San Joaquin Valley College and Woodbridge Seminar opened in 1879. But due to declining enrollment, the college closed its doors later that year.

Today, Woodbridge remains a charming little town far away from the hustle and bustle of city life with its own sprinkle of history.

A Small Town in Wine Country

Woodbridge is well known as the home of the popular Woodbridge wine by Robert Mondavi. Situated right in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley wine-growing region, the area is mainly hidden by stretches of vineyards and miles of cherry, almond, and walnut orchards. The place beckons wine lovers from all over the world to discover the Woodbridge wine country.

The latest census reported Woodbridge with a population of 4,199 people. The town offers residents a nice mix of suburban-rural life. Woodbridge is home to many young professionals and retirees, with most of them owning their homes. It also attracts young families as parks are bountiful in Woodbridge and public schools are above average.
