Head-On Chico Crash Causes Major Injuries
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that a serious auto accident occurred near Chico on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. The crash involved two separate vehicles and took place in a rural location of Butte County. Reports stated that the crash left two people with major injuries. The injured parties were identified as a 35-year-old woman and 26-year-old man, both from Chico. Updates on their conditions have not been made available. Officers have stated that what caused the accident is currently unclear and CHP is conducting an investigation in order to determine the factors involved in the crash.
Crash Details
According to police, the accident happened at around 7:50 a.m. on Meridian Road to the north of Bell Road a short distance northwest of Chico. A 2014 Volkswagen Passat had been driving north on Meridian Road when it drifted into the southbound side of the roadway. The Volkswagen entered the path of a southbound 1991 Chevrolet pickup, and the two vehicles crashed head-on.
Emergency responders were sent to the crash site immediately after CHP received notification of the accident. Medical responders reported that they found both drivers with major injuries. Both drivers were placed on ambulances and rushed to the Enloe Medical Center so that they could receive emergency medical treatment.
Investigation
Police closed the roadway to traffic for around an hour while the responders were underway. During this time, investigators surveyed the scene looking for evidence. However, CHP says that they are unsure why the Volkswagen drifted into oncoming traffic. Crashes like this one are common and can be caused by many different factors. Some of these factors include driving while fatigued, medical emergencies, auto product defects, roadway hazards, reckless driving behavior, and more.
Recovering from Major Injuries
The process of recovering from a major accident injury can be hard for several reasons. Firstly, injury recovery can be both painful and stressful. Crash survivors often spend a significant amount of time in the hospital and may not know whether or not they will be able to fully recover. The early stages of injury recovery can involve a host of mental health issues as well.
While simply regaining your health is difficult enough, people are often also faced with financial problems during this time. Paying for surgeries, medication, therapy, and other necessary costs related to recovery can seem impossible, especially if your injury has left you unable to work. Figuring out how you will pay for your recovery can be even more stressful than the physical pain itself.
People who are injured by negligent drivers deserve to be compensated for these losses. For this reason, crash survivors can seek payment for their damages through personal injury claims. However, it is best to have the advice of a professional Chico personal injury lawyer before taking any kind of legal action. Most lawyers will be happy to offer you a free phone consultation.
