Keifer Boulevard Head-on Collision Results in a Fatality
An accident in Rosemont claimed the life of a Sacramento man on March 18 in a head-on collision. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as happening along westbound Kiefer Boulevard near Tallyho Drive at about 5:22 p.m. Just when the Sacramento man, age 20, was entering the oncoming traffic, an Elk Grove man, 40, was heading in the opposite direction.
Further Details About the Head-on Collision
This is when the Elk Grove resident crossed from a left-turn lane and headed into the oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision. Unfortunately, the young Sacramento man, identified as Evan Gotisan, died as a result. It was reported by the CHP that he was not using a seat restraint at the time of the crash.

Minor injuries were suffered by the man from Elk Grove. Emergency responders treated him at the scene. Investigators say it is uncertain if alcohol or drugs were factors that contributed to the accident.
Losing a Loved One
No one expects to lose a loved one in an accident, and it’s a terrible experience for the family when it happens. If the loss was caused by a negligent driver, it compounds the family’s grief. In addition, unexpected costs and other losses can create a financial hardship.
Over the many years my law office has been around, we’ve successfully obtained compensation for grieving families when their loved one’s death was caused by negligence. Although it won’t ease their pain, it can help them avoid the financial stress that can come with the loss and help give them a sense of closure.
Reasons a Head-On Collision Occurs
There are a number of reasons for a head-on collision. They are one of the more serious types of crashes that can happen because both vehicles’ speeds combine to produce the impact. This is why a head-on collision often results in traumatic injuries and fatalities to the vehicles’ occupants. Some of the reasons an accident of this type occurs include:
- Speeding: Drivers who are going faster than the speed limit have less control over their vehicles and require a longer distance to stop. A head-on crash can occur anywhere from city streets to rural roads and highways.
- Drunk driving: Drunk or drugged drivers are not able to safely drive a vehicle at any speed. They lose their sense of judgment and show lowered reflexes and diminished eyesight. Although the drunk or drugged driver may feel they are handling the vehicle just fine, they may be weaving in the roadway and cross the centerline without realizing it.
- Passing on a rural road: Since most rural roads are two lanes, a driver often has to pass another slow vehicle. Unfortunately, some motorists try to pass on a double-yellow line or when they don’t know if the way is clear to avoid a head-on collision.
- Distracted driving: The number one reason for a traffic accident these days is a driver who is texting, talking on a phone, chatting with passengers, or performing some other activity. Distracted driving has been compared to being intoxicated in the danger it presents.
- Fatigue: Sleepiness is a hidden danger to the driver and others sharing the roadway. A fatigued driver sometimes doesn’t realize they are too tired to be behind the wheel of a car and can suddenly nod off to awaken when their vehicle crashes.
