Arena Boulevard Intersection Accident Caused by Wrong-Way Driver
A head-on crash in Natomas on January 1 caused injuries to one person. The collision happened around 1:46 in the morning at Arena Boulevard and East Commerce Way when a wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle head-on. According to officers with the Sacramento Police Department, the driver of the vehicle that was struck suffered a leg injury and was taken to a nearby hospital by first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department.
Wrong-Way Driver May Have Been Intoxicated
A field sobriety test was performed on the driver of the wrong-way vehicle. It was reported that alcohol consumption may have been a factor in the head-on crash. That driver was also taken to a nearby hospital with injuries. The accident is under investigation, and no information was released on any charges placed against the wrong-way driver.
Getting Legal Advice Following an Accident Injury
To determine whether an injured person can obtain compensation for their injuries, it must be proven that negligence by another party was the cause. A wrong-way driver who causes an accident injury is sometimes indisputable proof. However, other factors may have been involved that may show additional liability by another party, such as a negligent government entity. If they are there, our investigators will find them.

The Dangers of a Wrong-Way Driver
Wrong-way drivers account for a small percentage of accidents nationwide. However, fatalities and serious injuries are common because the impact of the crash combines the speeds of both vehicles. Locations where wrong-way drivers might cause a collision include:
- Highways: When a driver enters a highway ramp going in the wrong direction, they end up heading toward oncoming traffic.
- Rural roads: Two-lane highways are common locations for a head-on crash. This usually happens when a driver is attempting to pass unsafely.
- Parking garages: Wrong-way crashes can occur in parking garages because of the narrow width and diminished turn radius.
- Parking lots: Accidents of this type occur in parking lots when a driver is going in the wrong direction through narrow lanes.
Why Drivers Go the Wrong Way
There are a number of reasons a driver might go the wrong way on a street or road without noticing until a serious accident occurs. They include:
- Intoxication or drug use: This is probably the main reason a wrong-way crash occurs. An intoxicated driver exhibits slowed reflexes, poor judgment, and vision can be affected
- Confusing signage or road markings: When the government entity in charge of the roadway has missing or confusing signage, it can lead to a head-on crash when a driver enters the wrong way.
- Fatigued driving: A driver who is too tired to be behind the wheel of a car can cause a head-on crash by going the wrong way.
- Distracted driving: The number one cause of all types of accidents, a driver who is distracted can cause a head-on crash.
