Recovering Wrongful Death Compensation
When a loved one, such as a passenger in a vehicle or another driver, dies in a head-on crash that a negligent driver caused, the family may file a wrongful death claim to recover compensation. A Sonora wrongful death lawyer can help the family recover this compensation, which can help them go forward, get justice for their loss, and assist them in avoiding the financial repercussions caused by the death.
Damages Recovered in a Wrongful Death Claim
Wrongful death damages encompass a range of financial recoveries families can claim. These damages often include funeral and burial expenses, covering the necessary costs to honor the deceased. Families are also entitled to compensation for the lost wages the decedent would have earned until their expected retirement, ensuring ongoing financial support. Additionally, compensation may be claimed for lost pension, insurance benefits, and other employment-related perks.
Surviving spouses can seek compensation for the intangible losses experienced, such as losing the decedent’s love, companionship, consortium, and guidance. Children of the deceased may also be compensated for the loss of parental nurturing and guidance. Furthermore, families can recover the cost of the household services the decedent would have provided, including tasks like childcare, lawn care, auto maintenance, cleaning, and cooking, as these chores may now require paid assistance.
