High School Student Saves Driver from Crashed SUV

I’m Ed Smith, a South Sacramento car accident lawyer. A senior from Kennedy High School rescued  a dazed motorist out of their overturned vehicle during the afternoon hours of Tuesday, February 28, 2017. The heroic act by the teenager saved the life of the trapped driver involved in an automobile accident.

What Happened?

Stanley Vi, a 17-year-old Kennedy High School senior, was walking with a classmate to the Taco Bell along Florin Road in the vicinity of Riverside Boulevard. Vi heard a loud crash, turned around and observed a vehicle overturned on its side at the edge of the roadway in the path of oncoming traffic. Vi thought fast and ran across the parking lot to assist the trapped motorist in the vehicle. Vi stated that he found the driver bent over in the driver’s compartment. The driver’s side of the vehicle was resting on the ground.

Stanley Vi stated that he heard a hissing noise from the engine compartment. This caused Vi to think fast, jump on top of an adjacent pick up truck, on top of the SUV and opened the passenger door. Vi entered the vehicle, grabbed the motorist by his shirt and pulled. Vi then pushed the man from behind through the passenger side opening. Thanks to Vi, the man got out safely and received medical attention at the scene.

What Caused the Accident?

A cause of the accident has not yet been released by authorities. A Sacramento Police Department Spokesman, Officer Matthew McPhail, indicated that the trapped motorist appeared to have suffered from a medical emergency. This may have caused the driver to briefly lose consciousness and lose control of his vehicle in the moments before crashing into several vehicles. The driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
