Serious Highway 29 Accident
On Thursday, February 27, 2020, a chain-reaction auto accident outside of Napa left one person with major trauma. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that the crash involved four vehicles overall and happened early in the morning. Updates on the condition of the severely injured party have not yet been provided by hospital staff. Additionally, CHP is currently investigating the crash.
Collision Information
The crash occurred at 5:40 a.m. on Highway 29 between Vallejo and Napa. CHP stated that a 31-year-old man from San Lorenzo had been driving a Toyota Tacoma on the highway south of the Highway 221 intersection. The Tacoma rear-ended a Honda Civic that had been stopped in traffic, causing the sedan to overturn and collide with a third vehicle. The third vehicle was reportedly pushed into a fourth and final car.
Responders arrived at the crash scene shortly after the incident took place. Emergency officials stated that they found the Civic driver had suffered severe trauma during the crash and had the man transported to the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa.
Investigation of Highway 29 Accident
The highway’s northbound lanes were closed to traffic for over an hour while work crews removed the wreckage from the road, and police conducted initial investigations of the crash scene. Reports stated that the shut-down caused traffic to back up all the way from the Highway 221 intersection to Vallejo.
So far, CHP has not released a full report of suspected accident factors. However, officers indicated that they believe speeding and fatigued driving may have been involved. Additionally, police stated that all parties had been wearing seatbelts, and none of the involved drivers are suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Rollover Accidents
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that rollover collisions are significantly more dangerous than most accidents. According to the data, rollovers cause a disproportionately high number of severe and fatal injuries, causing as many as ten percent of deadly U.S. accidents.
One of the main reasons that rollover crashes cause severe injuries is that vehicle roofs are often not able to keep drivers and passengers safe. When vehicles are poorly designed or made from weak materials, roofs are liable to crumple if the vehicle overturns. This can leave occupants with very serious injuries that could have been avoided if the car had been manufactured differently. For this reason, the companies that manufacture vehicles involved in serious rollover crashes are often able to be held liable for damages caused during the crash. By holding these companies responsible, crash survivors are frequently able to claim the payments they need to cover medical expenses as well as things like property damage, lost income, and more.
