Highway 36 Truck Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Susanville car accident lawyer. On Saturday, March 4, 2017, at approximately 1:30 p.m. an accident occurred on Highway 36 in Susanville involving a mid-size SUV and a Peterbilt truck.
What Happened?
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received numerous reports of a head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV occurring on Highway 36 just west of Rock Creek. When crews arrived on scene they learned that the truck’s load was empty and there was no need for concern about the possibility of a hazardous leak in the roadway. According to CHP officers, the roads were very wet at the time of the collision and one of the involved drivers may have lost traction. At this point speed, distracted driving or driving under the influence have not yet been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision.
Were There Injuries?
The driver of the SUV suffered minor to moderate injuries from the impact and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for evaluation and treatment. The driver of the truck did not request medical attention at the scene. It is unknown if he suffered any injuries.
Road Closures
Both lanes of Highway 36 in the Susanville area was closed for a short time following the collision while the involved vehicle and truck were cleared from the scene. By the time the tow trucks detoured around the closed roadways the rain had turned into snow and delayed the clearing of the road for approximately 45 minutes longer than originally anticipated.
