Highway 89 Major Injuries Reported in Head-On Collision
A head-on collision resulting in major injuries happened between two vehicles near Clio, west of Chico, on July 1. The accident happened along Highway 89 just north of Gold Lake Highway around 11:23 a.m. The collision involved a Chevy Suburban and a sedan, blocking the intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Fault Being Determined in Head-On Collision
The individual who suffered a major injury was taken to a hospital for treatment. The roadway was closed for a time as the scene was cleared of the vehicles and debris. The cause of the collision and fault is being determined by CHP traffic accident investigators.
Head-On Crash and Its Causes
One of the most deadly types of motor vehicle collisions is a head-on collision. Two opposing vehicles hitting each other frontally is known as a head-on. It is possible for drivers and passengers involved in such a crash to sustain serious injuries or even die because the impact includes the speeds of both vehicles combined. Head-on accidents are primarily caused by the following:
- Passing improperly: There may be times when a driver attempts to pass another vehicle without having a clear view ahead. There are those who may pass on a double-yellow line, which is illegal. The problem also arises when drivers pull out of side streets without looking for oncoming traffic.
- Driver error: An error made by the driver may be the result of distraction, speeding, impairment by alcohol or drugs, or simply not paying attention to the road. Failure to yield the right of way or disregarding traffic rules can also result in a head-on collision.
- Vehicle defects: Vehicle collisions can result from mechanical failures such as defective brakes, steering systems and other parts of a vehicle. Keeping a crash-damaged vehicle helps engineers identify defects that caused the crash, such as loss of control if it was retained. If this occurs, the manufacturer, part maker or another party may be liable for auto product liability.
- Poor road maintenance: When roads are poorly maintained and signage is inadequate, drivers may become confused and lose control. When a frontal collision injury accident occurs due to a lack of maintenance, the government entity may be responsible. It may be wise to get help from an accident attorney since the time limit for filing such a claim is six months.
