Highway 99 Fatality Collision
I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville-Yuba City car accident lawyer. On Thursday, January 19, 2017, a head-on collision occurred on Highway 99 north of Coleman Avenue in Live Oak.
What Happened?
Around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday morning a 27-year-old man was traveling southbound on Highway 99 near Coleman Avenue in a Mitsubishi. Witness reports obtained by local law enforcement state that the driver of the Mitsubishi was swerving and crossing over the double yellow line leading up to this collision. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver crossed over into the northbound lane and crashed into a Toyota pick-up truck being driven by a 25-year-old Yuba City resident. The driver of the Toyota attempted to swerve out of the way of the oncoming vehicle but was not successful in her efforts and the vehicle she was driving was hit head-on.
Were There Injuries?
Yes. When first responders arrived they discovered the driver of the Mitsubishi had succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The woman was transported by ambulance to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville to receive treatment for traumatic injuries she suffered in this head-on collision. The accident is currently under investigation.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this tragic collision. We extend our hopes for a speedy recovery to the woman who was seriously injured.
Who Was at Fault?
It is too soon to know for sure. It usually takes seven to ten days for the CHP to investigate and prepare a report of their findings. Sometimes a traffic collision report can be wrong or inconclusive. This can leave family members of an individual who has passed away with several unanswered questions. It can also make it difficult for an injured party to have incorrect information as to cause appearing on their traffic collision report. It is important to contact an experienced car accident lawyer who can investigate the events leading up to the accident and perform a scene investigation to help pinpoint causation. Contact a car accident lawyer for more information.
