Highway 99 Statistics

Why?
The California Central Valley’s Highway 99 was reported to be the most fatal major freeway in the United States. The highway is 400 miles long and connects the centers of Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento and other cities in the valley. The study concluded that for every 100 miles on the freeway, there were 62 fatal accidents in the past 5 years. From 2011 to 2015, there have been 264 deadly accidents on Highway 99 according to data researched by ValuePenguin from the National Traffic and Highway Safety Administration page of fatal collisions. The report also determined that 50 of those involved in the accidents were driving under the influence. The Modesto area in the vicinity of Highway 99 has the most recorded fatalities at 35.
Highway Improvements
Officials from the California Highway Patrol have been working together on a project for efficiency and safety improvements for Highway 99 for over the past 10 years. The project was reported to be worth one billion dollars. Approximately twenty billion dollars was utilized towards integrating infrastructure bonds to improve the safety of motorists on the highway.
