Grass Valley Teen Dies in Highway Accident
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, a Grass Valley woman tragically lost her life during a car accident that took place on an area highway. The decedent has been identified as an 18-year-old graduate of Bear River High School. In addition to the fatally injured woman, one other person was left with trauma as a result of the crash. California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently investigating possible causes of the crash.
Collision Information
According to CHP, the collision happened at around 2:45 p.m. on Highway 49 near Lone Star Road. The teen was driving in a white-colored Honda Civic heading south on 49 when her vehicle drifted to the left for unknown reasons. The Civic eventually crossed the median and entered northbound lanes, directly into the path of an oncoming Mini Cooper.
Her car crashed head-on into the Mini Cooper, causing major damages to both vehicles. After the initial collision, the Civic crashed into a third vehicle, identified as a box truck.
Response
Directly after they received a phone call reporting the accident, CHP sent an emergency response team to the accident scene. When responders arrived at the scene, they found that the teen woman had suffered critical trauma. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased on-scene. The driver of the Mini Cooper was found with serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Roseville for care. Officials indicated that the man’s injuries were not life-threatening. Finally, the driver of the box truck did not suffer trauma as a result of the incident.
Investigation
Highway 49 was partly shut down while CHP and Placer County authorities responded to the incident and conducted a preliminary accident site investigation. According to traffic reports, the highway was severely slowed for around two hours despite remaining partially open during response.
So far, investigating officers have not reported any suspected factors involved in this accident. Often, collisions like this one are caused by one or more factors that involved drivers are unable to control. These can include things like driving a vehicle with faulty parts or using a roadway with a serious, dangerous defect.
Furthermore, it can be very difficult for police to investigate accidents where one or more drivers is fatally injured. Because the driver is unable to tell their version of events, police are often left with an incomplete picture of what happened and may overlook important evidence. To prevent this, it’s a good idea to reach out to an experienced wrongful death lawyer who can investigate the crash privately.
