Highway Interchange Crash Fatally Injures Elderly Stockton Man
An elderly man was driving his vehicle along the highway near Stockton on the morning of Friday, December 8, 2017. Unfortunately, this would be the last time the man would take a drive due to an unexpected automobile accident.

Accident Details
An 84-year-old Stockton man was driving his Honda southbound along Highway 99 near the Highway 4 transition ramp at about 9:37 am. The elderly man’s vehicle was stopped along the right shoulder of the roadway when he tried to maneuver his Honda back onto the highway. For unknown reasons, the man allegedly conducted a turning maneuver across both travel lanes and caused his Honda to face perpendicular to oncoming traffic. The Honda was in the direct path of a 2000 Ford operated by a 38-year-old Stockton man, who claims he was traveling 55 miles per hour but could not stop in time to avoid colliding with the Honda. The impact of the collision propelled the Honda in a southeast direction towards Highway 99, where it eventually came to a rest after striking a concrete center divider. Emergency crews were called to the scene to rescue the trapped elderly man out of the Honda.
Nature of Injuries
Crews from the Stockton Fire Department were dispatched to the accident scene to extricate the elderly man from the Honda. The extrication efforts were successful, and emergency personnel transported the elderly man to the San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment of major internal injuries. At the hospital, the man received life-saving treatment measures but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Identity of Victim
The identity of the elderly man has not yet been released as of this writing.
What Caused the Accident?
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined due to an ongoing investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
