Hit-and-Run Accident Fatally Injures Pedestrian Near Fresno County

The pedestrian was struck by an alleged hit-and-run tractor-trailer truck. The injured party, unfortunately, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

What Happened?
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 8:54 pm. CHP was contacted regarding a deceased man found along the south shoulder of Mountain View Avenue in the vicinity of Van Horn Avenue. The man was allegedly walking in the eastbound lane of Mountain View Avenue and was wearing dark clothing. A 37-year-old Riverdale man was behind the wheel of a 2008 Volvo three-axle truck eastbound along Mountain View Avenue. The truck driver did not see the man walking in the road and collided with the man.
The truck driver initially fled the scene following the collision, however, was advised to return back to the area per his employer. The truck driver arrived at the scene about an hour later and cooperated with authorities with the investigation. Authorities determined that the truck driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, he was detained for leaving the scene initially and arrested for felony hit-and-run.
Was the Pedestrian Injured?
Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the area of the pedestrian accident. When they arrived, they located the injured pedestrian. The pedestrian was, unfortunately, pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released due to pending notification of his next-of-kin.
What Caused the Pedestrian Accident?
It is still too soon to determine the cause of the pedestrian accident. Law enforcement agencies usually take one to two weeks to process a Traffic Collision Report.
