Hit-and-Run Accident Injures Family Near Modesto

Hit-and-Run Accident Injures Family Near Modesto

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto car accident lawyer. A father and his two children were driving together in Modesto on the afternoon of Sunday, March 4, 2018. The family was struck by a hit-and-run driver which, unfortunately, caused them to suffer traumatic injuries.

We send our healing thoughts to the injured family for a speedy and full recovery following this tragic accident.

What Happened?

An informant contacted the Modesto Police Department to report a party suffering from what appeared to be a medical issue inside a red Honda sedan along Newgate Street shortly before 12:00 pm. Officers and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene where they immediately concluded that there was not a present medical emergency.

The driver of the red Honda sedan reportedly started their vehicle and fled the area following contact with authorities. The responding officers did not pursue the driver as there was no reason to hold them accountable for any violation. Shortly after, police received reports of a red Honda sedan speeding westbound along Kansas Avenue in the vicinity of Emerald Avenue. The Honda driver allegedly entered the opposing lane of travel and collided with a black sedan carrying a father and his two children. The impact of the collision caused the black sedan to collide head-on with a power pole, which caused the vehicle to sustain major front-end damage.

Police Detain Hit-and-Run Driver

Investigators indicated that the driver and passenger of the red Honda sedan fled the area on foot following the auto accident. The two suspects were later apprehended by officers a short distance from the scene.

Nature of Injuries

Authorities reported that the father and his children inside the black sedan suffered non-life-threatening injuries. It is not yet known whether the family received hospitalization for their injuries.

What Caused the Accident?

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been decided by investigators. A Traffic Collision Report generally takes one to two weeks to be processed. However, officials indicated that the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle was expected to be arrested following discharge from hospitalization. The driver will be facing various charges pertaining to the accident as well as outstanding warrants.

Insurance in Hit-and-Run Accidents

The city of Modesto has been recently experiencing a high rate of hit-and-run accidents. In these cases, a victim may resort to their own automobile insurance if they are a policyholder of Uninsured/Under-insured Motorist Protection (UM). UM coverage typically pays damages from a hit-and-run accident as well as collisions involving under-insured motorists. Recovering financial compensation from a hit-and-run accident can be extremely difficult without the assistance of an experienced Modesto car accident lawyer. Hiring an experienced attorney is important in guiding you through the claims process and securing your right to fair compensation.
