El Camino Rear-End Collision Injury Involves Hit-and-Run Driver
A hit-and-run resulting in injuries occurred in Sacramento on June 2. The incident happened on El Camino Avenue off Eastern Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area around 5:41 in the afternoon. The police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the suspect vehicle was a brown van, which rear-ended a compact car.
Accident Being Investigated
The incident was transferred to the Sacramento Fire Department first responders, who ascertained that an injury had occurred. No additional details about that injury were provided. The roadway reopened around 6:07 p.m. An investigation into the crash is underway by the CHP.
Injuries Caused by a Hit-and-Run Driver
Hit-and-runs have become far too common in Northern California as elsewhere. Although there are a number of reasons an accident with a fleeing driver can occur, the following are the most common:
- The driver is either driving on an expired license or has no insurance.
- The vehicle is stolen, and the driver doesn’t want to be caught.
- The driver is drunk or has been using drugs.
- Their license has either been suspended or revoked.
- An employer owns the vehicle, and the driver doesn’t want them to find out they were involved in a traffic accident.
- If the driver has a CDL license, it could be revoked for their involvement in an accident.
- The driver may be transporting illegal drugs or other items.
Hunting Down a Hit-and-Run Driver
We’ve been successful in a number of cases in locating a fleeing driver, so they can be held responsible for injuries caused by a hit-and-run accident. Some of the ways in which we do this are as follows:
- Our investigators go to the accident scene to gather evidence such as smears of paint, dropped metal parts, and tread marks.
- Accident reconstruction is performed, which can help determine which driver is at fault in a hit-and-run accident.
- They interview the witnesses to the accident, who may be able to describe the vehicle and driver. Some may recall the license plate or have filmed the collision on their cell phones.
- The police report is checked for accuracy and information that might help in locating the driver.
- Area surveillance cameras are examined to see if the hit-and-run was caught on tape.
Using Insurance Coverage to Cover the Cost of Accident Injuries
If the hit-and-run driver cannot be located, there is another option for the injured party to recover compensation. They can use their uninsured/underinsured policy that they were offered when they first elected to purchase car insurance. Many people opted in for this add-on policy because of the high number of drivers in California who lack adequate insurance. If the injured party does not carry this add-on policy but another household member does, that can be used instead, and your injury attorney can help you obtain the compensation that will cover all of your expenses. Using the uninsured/underinsured policy does not affect the rates in the future.
