Hit-and-Run Crash Fatally Injures Delhi Teen

What Happened?
A Delhi man was driving his 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound along August Avenue in the vicinity of Palm Street at approximately 9:00 pm. The Chevrolet allegedly struck a 17-year-old Delhi girl that was walking in the area. According to a Traffic Collision Report, the impact of the collision propelled the young girl nearly 500 feet east of Palm Street. The Chevrolet driver left the scene following the accident without rendering assistance.
Victim Suffers Fatal Injuries
Emergency responders were called to the scene of the accident. Neighbors in the area rendered CPR to the young girl until medical personnel arrived. Sadly, the young girl was pronounced deceased at the scene by officials.
Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe returned to the scene a short time after the collision. A sobriety test was conducted on the motorist by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which indicated signs of alcohol intoxication. The suspect, 33-year-old Michael Lindo of Delhi, was arrested on multiple felony charges including having three or more DUI convictions in seven years, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence (DUI) resulting in death, hit-and-run causing death and felony charges of first degree murder. He has been booked into the Merced County Jail and his bond has been set at $1.4 million dollars.
