Hit-and-Run Crash Fatally Injures Lodi Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Lodi personal injury lawyer. The family of a Lodi man are seeking justice after a hit-and-run crash fatally injured their loved one during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 6, 2017.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the victim that passed away in this devastating accident.

What Happened?

A 68-year-old Lodi man was carpooling with two co-workers in his Volvo northbound along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Hood Franklin Road at approximately 4:38 am. A 2001 Mercedes-Benz attempted to pass the Volvo but, unfortunately, clipped the rear-end of the vehicle. The impact of the collision propelled the Volvo into the center median, causing the vehicle to roll across the three southbound lanes of Interstate 5 moments before coming to a rest along the shoulder on its roof.

Hit-and-Run Driver Abandons Vehicle

The motorist of the Mercedes-Benz involved in the accident allegedly drove away from the scene. The vehicle was found abandoned by authorities along Hood Franklin Road near the on-ramp for Interstate 5 north. The hit-and-run driver was nowhere to be found after leaving their abandoned car behind.

The abandoned Mercedes-Benz is registered to a 24-year-old woman that has ties to both Vallejo and San Leandro. Officials are investigating whether the woman or someone else was operating her vehicle at the time of the incident.

Was Anyone Injured?

The Volvo driven by the 68-year-old Lodi man also carried his 76-year-old supervisor and 60-year-old co-worker. The co-worker suffered broken bones resulting from the rollover accident. The Lodi man’s co-worker and supervisor were both taken to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Hospital for treatment. The 68-year-old man, sadly, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
