Pedestrian Injury in Sacramento Linked to Hit and Run Driver

A pedestrian injury occurred in Sacramento on December 21 on the 1800 block of N Street. Officers with the Sacramento Police Department as well as Sac Fire arrived at the location following a report of an injured pedestrian at around 12:20 in the morning. When officers arrived, they discovered an unresponsive but conscious person lying on the sidewalk. That individual was transported to a nearby hospital with undescribed injuries. Police in the case are seeking a black-colored SUV with a broken windshield that may have caused the pedestrian injury. Officers with the Sacramento Police are investigating the accident to determine how it occurred.

Hit and Runs in Sacramento County

Between October 2018 and the end of September 2019, there were 927 traffic collisions recorded in Sacramento that were hit and runs. Injuries in these accidents totaled 370, and there were five or more deaths. In the county itself, the statistics were much higher. The CHP recorded 3,835 accidents that were hit and runs during this same period. They resulted in 13 deaths and 1,293 injuries. According to the report, alcohol use and speed were the primary reasons these accidents happened.

Investigating a Hit and Run

The knowledge that the driver didn’t care enough to stay and offer aid heightens the pain of a hit and run pedestrian injury. An experienced injury lawyer can help following a pedestrian injury collision of this type. By conducting an independent investigation into the crash, a lawyer with resources can help find the driver who caused your injury in many cases. In this way, they may be held responsible.

Seeking Help From an Injury Lawyer After a Hit and Run

At our law firm, we first send our investigators to the site of the pedestrian injury accident to collect evidence. After looking for errors in the police report and talking to witnesses, they look for traffic surveillance cameras and businesses that might have caught the accident on tape. We search for forensic evidence such as parts that were knocked off the offending vehicle and paint smears that can pinpoint the make and model of the car. In some cases, accident reconstruction may be helpful. By compiling this evidence, we may be able to locate the offending driver in the pedestrian injury collision. Once the hit and run driver is found, we can pursue compensation for your injuries from their insurance company, or the case can be taken to court.

What If the Driver Can’t Be Found?

Those who carry uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can use it to pay for injuries following a pedestrian or other traffic accident. It covers a motorist, whether they are injured in a vehicle or while riding a bike, a motorcycle, or walking. However, this type of insurance is optional in California, so some people do not carry it. The good news is that if someone in your household has uninsured/underinsured coverage, it can be used by other family members who live in the home. Insurance rates do not increase when this type of coverage is used.
