Carmichael Man killed in South Sacramento Hit-and-run

This last weekend, on Thursday, May 25, 2017, a Carmichael man was killed by a hit-and-run driver in South Sacramento while riding his bike to work. The incident is most likely to have taken place around 11:00 p.m. but the body was not found till about 4 hours later.

What Happened

A 25-year-old Carmichael man by the name of Justin Vega was riding his bike near the intersection of Elder Creek Rd. and Power Inn Rd. late at night on Thursday. He was heading to his midnight shift at FedEx when he was hit by a car and left for dead. The car hit him from behind and continued on without reporting the accident to authorities.

The Investigation

Following the accident, Justin Vega’s body was not found for about 4 hours. He was dead by the time help arrived. It is possible that Vega could have survived the incident had it been reported and he received prompt medical treatment. Authorities are still looking for any information concerning the driver and the vehicle involved in this fatal hit-and-run accident. They are hopeful to find the culprit, due to the car debris gathered at the scene of the accident.

Responses from Friends and Family

Vega’s Sister, Antoinette Aguirre, says the incident is the “most hurtful thing in the world.” She pleads for the driver involved to confess so that the family can finally get some answers to what happened. Additionally, they want to know why even an anonymous phone call was not made after the accident. Aguirre was the first in the family to know of the accident. She called his work after he failed to return home at the usual hour. Vega’s work notified her that Vega never showed up for his shift. Furthermore, there was news of a fatal accident that had taken place just down the street. Aguirre arrived at the scene just as authorities were removing Vega’s bike and cleaning up the scene.

Justin Vega was nicknamed “The Beast” by friends and family due to his willingness to always accept a challenge. He is said to have been always willing to provide counsel to his friends and family when they needed it.
