Two-Vehicle Crash on I-80 Injures One Driver, While the Other Flees the Scene
A hit-and-run resulting in injuries occurred along Interstate 80 in Sacramento on July 12 involving a Ford SUV and a Dodge Challenger. The crash happened around 3:37 p.m. just west of the Northgate Boulevard on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report. The SUV blocked the fast lane, and both parties exited their vehicles. However, one of the drivers apparently got back in their vehicle and drove off.
Police Actively Searching for Driver Who Fled the Scene of an Accident
Sacramento Fire Department medics were called to the scene of the hit-and-run to attend to the injured driver of the Dodge, and their vehicle had to be towed. No additional information was provided on the extent of the driver’s injuries or whether they were transported to a hospital for additional care. Police received a report that the other vehicle had exited Northgate Boulevard at Rosin Court and were actively looking for the vehicle.
Finding a Hit-and-Run Driver
Many people think it’s almost impossible to locate a fleeing driver after an accident. However, we have successfully located many of them, allowing injured parties to obtain compensation for their injuries. We do this through the at-fault party’s insurance company or by filing a lawsuit. Some of the ways in which we work to identify the hit-and-run driver include:
- Our investigators go to the accident scene to photograph and gather available evidence. From paint smears and dropped pieces of metal, which help to identify the make and model of the vehicle, to road marks and other damage, these types of evidence are useful.
- They perform accident reconstruction, which shows how the collision occurred and often points toward fault.
- The investigators interview any witnesses to the hit-and-run accident. They may have information about the vehicle or driver. In some cases, they recall at least part of the license plate number or captured the accident on their cell phones.
- Area traffic surveillance cameras are checked to see if they captured the accident, which helps to identify the fleeing driver and their vehicle. If it was, the tape can be subpoenaed.
Once the driver is located, they can be held responsible for all of the injured party’s medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Our injury attorneys use the gathered evidence to build a strong case that supports that compensation claim.
Insurance Can Be Used to Pay for Accident Injuries
Those who have an uninsured/underinsured insurance policy can use it to pay for injuries suffered in a traffic collision. It not only covers motorists but also if you are injured as a pedestrian, motorcyclist or bicycle rider. If you don’t have this add-on insurance but another household member does, that can be used to cover your accident injuries. It will not affect the rates the policyholder is paying in the future.
