Steering Concerns Involved in Recent Honda Recall

A Honda recall was issued by the parent company, affecting close to 1.7 million vehicles. The recall is due to a manufacturing defect that presents steering difficulties and raises the risk of accidents. Last week, Honda informed government regulators about the issue, prompting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue an official recall order on October 8.

Steering Gearbox Problems Result in Honda Recall

The concern centers around the steering gearbox assembly, which may have been improperly manufactured, potentially leading to excessive internal friction that can compromise steering control and elevate the chance of crashes.

Vehicles Affected by the Recent Honda Recall

The recall encompasses models manufactured between 2022 and 2025, specifically targeting certain Honda Civics, Acura Integras, Honda HR-Vs, and Honda CR-Vs. The NHTSA started an investigation of the issue in March after 145 complaints were filed by Honda Civic drivers reporting their steering would occasionally stick, demanding more effort to turn the wheel despite the initial announcement indicating no incidents or injuries and the order omitting any mention of crashes, affected vehicle owners will receive notification letters by November 18.

Dealerships Offer Free Repairs Following Honda Recall

The recall offers free repairs at dealers, where technicians will replace the worm gear spring and reapply grease as necessary. Concerned owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138, referencing recall numbers VJV, MJU, and QJT.

How Sticky Steering Can Lead to an Auto Accident

When a vehicle’s steering becomes sticky, it can pose a significant risk to the driver’s ability to control the car effectively. Sticky steering is often caused by issues such as low power steering fluid, a malfunctioning power steering pump, or problems within the steering rack. These issues can make turning the wheel more difficult, especially at lower speeds or when trying to make sharp turns. If a driver cannot easily maneuver their vehicle, it increases the likelihood of delayed reactions to road hazards, potentially leading to accidents.

Holding an Auto Manufacturer Liable When a Faulty Part Causes an Injury Accident

Product liability laws are designed to hold manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and retailers accountable for injuries caused by defective or unsafe products. Under these laws, a manufacturer can be held liable if a product they produce is found to have defects that cause harm to consumers.

Auto Accident Injuries That May Occur in a Crash Involving a Product Recall

Injuries that occur in an auto accident can range from minor to severe, depending on the circumstances of the crash. Common injuries include:

  • Whiplash
  • Broken bones and fractures
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Internal injuries
