Motorcycle Accidents and Wrongful Death
When a loved one passes away in a motorcycle accident, it is always an unexpected shock for the family. If the collision was caused by a negligent driver, the family of the decedent may file a claim for wrongful death against that party for damages incurred. While no amount of money will reverse the tragic loss of a loved one, a wrongful death claim can provide a family with some level of comfort as they recover from their loss. What May Be Recovered in a Wrongful Death Claim?
Determining what can be recovered in a wrongful death claim can be complex. Following are the types of damages that can be reclaimed in these cases:
- Immediate expenses related to the death, including costs of a loved one’s end-of-life medical care, funeral, and burial
- Inheritance and other gifts the deceased would have left to his or her family
- Loss of future financial support a victim would have contributed to the family had the accident not occurred
- Loss of consortium may be recovered by a decedent’s spouse or domestic partner
- The reasonable value of services a decedent would have provided for his or her household such as cooking, childcare, lawn maintenance, and more
