Identity Released for Paradise Area Fatal Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Paradise Car Accident Lawyer. On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, the Butte County Coroner’s Office released the identity of a man who lost his life in a head-on auto accident near Paradise. The man was identified as Alan Dominguez, a 59-year-old resident of Magalia.

My sincere condolences are extended to the friends and family members of Mr. Dominguez.

Crash Details

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers issued reports on Monday, March 5, 2018, indicating that a fatal collision had occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. at a location on Clark Road a short distance north of Airport Road.

Dominguez had reportedly been driving a 2014 Chevy Spark southbound on Clark Road at about 50 miles per hour when his vehicle drifted to the right-hand side, partially exiting the asphalt of the road. Reports indicate that the Chevrolet subsequently swiftly pulled back on the road, but over-corrected.

After pulling left, Dominguez’s vehicle crossed the roadway median and traveled into the northbound traffic lane and directly into the path of an oncoming 2003 Nissan Murano driven by Haley Shadwick, a 22-year-old Oroville woman. The vehicles collided head-on.

Response and Injuries

CHP received a phone call alerting them that individuals had been injured in an accident on Clark Road and immediately dispatched response personnel to the accident scene. Upon arrival, responders found both Dominguez and Shadwick with major injuries and had both of them transported to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico.

Dominguez’s injuries were reportedly too severe for treatment and he later was declared dead at the hospital. Shadwick’s condition was severe at the time of the accident; updated information on her condition has not been made publicly available.

Investigation

This incident remains under CHP investigation. Officers have made statements indicating that alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have been involved in the crash. While the primary cause of the accident remains unclear, possible factors under investigation include things such as driver distraction, defects in the roadway, a medical emergency, and more.

Wrongful Death and Recoverable Damages

Individuals who rely on drivers who lose their lives in accidents involving negligent parties are legally able to receive payments from the parties determined to have a fault in the collision. While money can never replace somebody you love, California law provides for family members and dependents of the deceased to receive compensation for many types of losses related to the passing away of their loved one.

Types of loss that people with wrongful death cases are eligible to receive compensation for can include emotional damages such as loss of parental guidance and loss of companionship as well as financial losses like loss of household income and loss of inheritance. To learn more about the full range of damages that wrongful death cases can include, see my helpful website.
