It is not yet known whether the woman who was injured in the accident was transported to a hospital for treatment or what her condition was.
What Happened?
The crash occurred shortly after 5:00 pm along Fair Oaks Boulevard just west of Munroe Street near Loehmann’s Plaza Shopping Center. According to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, a woman driving a Mazda CX-5 was attempting to cross the street when she was T-boned by a grey sedan. According to a witness to the accident, the driver of an Infiniti was at fault because he motioned that it was clear for the Mazda to cross. The witness further stated that when the Mazda was broadsided, the Infiniti driver left the scene.
T-Bone Accidents
Of the many types of accidents, T-bones are particularly dangerous because the side of a vehicle is the weakest section, so a broadside crash can result in serious injuries. These accidents commonly occur at intersections but can also transpire at cross streets or when making a left turn. Because the vehicle is pushed sideways upon impact, in some instances, the car that has been struck is shoved into another vehicle. Older vehicles might not be equipped with air bags on the sides. This can heighten the risk of traumatic brain injuries, broken bones or spinal fractures.
Accidents While Making a Left Turn
This common type of T-bone accident is caused when a driver turns without looking for oncoming traffic, tries to beat a car that is coming or risks crossing without a clear view. Drivers who are turning are required to yield to oncoming traffic, but it can be difficult on streets without traffic signals. A driver who turns and is struck by an oncoming vehicle may be found at fault in a collision. However, if the turning vehicle had a view that was obstructed by overgrown shrubbery or inadequate signage, the government entity with the responsibility to maintain it may be held liable.
Intersection Accidents
Intersection accidents are caused by disobeying traffic laws or by refusing to yield the right of way. They can also happen because of the confusion of passing through an intersection where one driver fails to spot another before proceeding. Following are the times when a driver is expected to yield at an intersection:
- If you arrive at the intersection at the same time as another vehicle, yield to the car on the right-hand side.
- If you are making a left-hand turn, yield to vehicles going straight.
- Yield to other vehicles that reach the intersection before you.
- Entering the road, yield to vehicles that are going straight.
