Injuries in Antioch Rollover Auto Accident
I’m Ed Smith, an Antioch auto accident lawyer. A recent car accident on Highway 4 injured several people and caused one of the vehicles to flip onto its side.
About the Injuries in the Accident
Reports are still emerging about the number and severity of the injuries sustained in the accident. One source reports that only one person complained of pain after the accident, but this person allegedly refused transport to an area hospital.
Another source on scene at the accident reported at least two people with moderate to severe injuries. This source says paramedics transported one victim to the John Muir Medical Center with possible internal bleeding. A second victim reported chest, neck, and back pain in the accident. An ambulance transported this victim to Stockton Kaiser Hospital.
The second source agrees that one victim complained of generalized pain but refused transport to a hospital. No other victims in the accident reported any injuries.
About the Accident
As with the injuries, there are conflicting reports about what actually happened in the accident. One source reported that a two-door black Dodge pickup truck struck a white cargo van. This caused the van to strike the center divider and roll over. The van eventually came to rest on its side in the middle lane.
A second report indicates that the accident was far more involved. This report agrees with the basic narrative of a black Dodge pickup striking a white cargo van. It then alleges, however, that somewhere between six and eight other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Some of these vehicles crashed in an attempt to avoid the initial accident while others crashed into the original vehicles. Some of the vehicles in this account were not actually involved in the accident. Rather they stopped to render aid to accident victims.
The second account appears to be the most credible report of the accident as it was compiled using witness reports. Both accounts agree that the accident occurred on eastbound Highway 4 near Contra Loma Boulevard.
About the Cause of the Accident
Both reports also agree that the cause of the accident is unknown. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), however, is investigating. They will likely issue a report with a preliminary cause of the accident within a month.
It is important to know that CHP investigations of non-fatal car accidents do not necessarily tell the full story of an accident. The CHP does not have the resources to conduct a full investigation into every accident. Their investigators therefore sometimes miss some information. This makes it essential that auto accident victims and their families contact an experienced auto accident lawyer in a few days after an accident.
An Antioch auto accident lawyer can hire accident reconstruction experts who can devote their full energies into determining what actually happened.
Speed as a Factor
Any investigator examining the accident is likely to determine that speed likely played a role in the accident. Highway 4 through Antioch and Pittsburg is notorious for high speed drivers. Many of these drivers will then make unsafe lane changes, causing other vehicles to hit them.
While there is no information on speeding or unsafe lane changes in this accident, these reports may emerge in the ongoing investigation.
