What You Should Know About Farming Accidents

According to the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), two-thirds of the nation’s nuts and fruits and over a third of the nation’s vegetables are grown in the state. The demand for such commodities may require the use of farm tractors, heavy machinery, and other equipment to plant, grow, and harvest these crops. Tractors may require the use of public roads to travel from farm to farm, particularly in remote areas. However, agricultural employees and others on the road may face a wide array of unsafe conditions alike.

A farm tractor may pose significant dangers when traveling on a rural road. Those using motorized farm equipment may not enjoy some of the safety features in which a motor vehicle may provide, such as seatbelts, steel frames, and airbags. If a farm tractor is involved in a rollover collision, there is an increased risk of crushing injuries. With the decreased visibility of unlit farming tractors during sunrise or sunset, it may be challenging for a driver to spot them before it is too late. Conversely, a farm tractor may weigh more or less than 10,000 pounds, and such a weight may increase the damage sustained in a crash with a passenger vehicle.

After a motor vehicle crash involving a farm tractor, it is essential to focus on recovering from accident-related injuries. Once medical treatment has been sought, an injured party should consider discussing their case with an injury lawyer who is well-versed in California’s personal injury laws surrounding traffic collisions involving motorized farming equipment. It may make a difference in the personal injury case by having an experienced accident attorney answer questions and help injured parties understand their rights and potential options for recovery moving forward.
