She was transported via air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for immediate treatment of serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation by CHP revealed that the woman was walking in the area when she was hit by an unknown vehicle headed northbound on the off-ramp from SR-99. The motorist allegedly fled the scene following the traffic collision. Additional details on the incident were not immediately available.

What You Should Know About Hit and Run Accidents Resulting in Injury

The evidence gathered in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash is similar to that of other bodily injury claims. The unique issue in these cases is that the identity of the motorist and description of the suspect vehicle may be unknown. Under these circumstances, it is essential to ensure specific steps have been met to fully establish that the incident occurred as a result of a hit and run in a personal injury case. There is a statute of limitations in personal injury cases. In California, the time permitted to file a case in civil court is two years if the claim is not resolved before then with the insurance company. Other filing criteria and deadlines must be met in such cases.

Anyone who has been injured in a hit-and-run crash as a pedestrian should contact an experienced injury lawyer right away because investigations of these cases differ from those of traffic collisions. That is because there is a possibility that the identity of the suspect driver may not be obtained. An attorney can help an injured party seek recourse for compensation, like bringing a claim with their insurer for uninsured motorist benefits. This type of coverage pays for damages resulting from a hit-and-run accident and may extend to other members of a household. It is possible in the latter so long as the member is not excluded from the insurance plan. Watch the video to learn more about uninsured motorist coverage.

Why is Hiring a Personal Injury Lawyer Important?

In each pedestrian accident case, there may be unique challenges that may arise, and each should be identified and addressed. Evidence should be collected and produced to overcome any issues in the claims process to ensure the injured party is fairly compensated for their losses. This is especially true in the case of uninsured motorist claims for hit and run accidents. The unfortunate reality is that getting reimbursed by your insurance company can be complex.

It is in the best interest of an injured individual to retain an attorney as soon as possible. An injury lawyer will evaluate the circumstances and facts of the case and help them navigate the claims process.
