Injuries Reported in Separate Trucking Accidents Near Merced
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced car accident lawyer. Two separate truck accidents occurred within a short time frame near Merced on the morning of Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Unfortunately, these collisions caused two parties to suffer traumatic injuries.
First Truck Accident Details
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call of an accident involving a big rig and a pickup truck at approximately 8:16 am. The accident occurred along Highway 99 south in the vicinity of the R Street off-ramp. A 2015 Freightliner hauling a trailer struck a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup. The accident caused traffic to slow down in the area.
Second Truck Accident Details
A big rig hauling two trailers was also traveling southbound along Highway 99 in the vicinity of 16th Street at about 8:26 am. A bobtail truck was traveling behind the slowing big rig when it was rear-ended by a Honda. The impact of the collision propelled the bobtail truck into the rear-end of the big rig.
Traffic Mayhem
Authorities closed down a portion of Highway 99 southbound for over an hour to allow crews to clear debris from the scenes of both truck accidents. This evidently resulted in congested traffic conditions.
Reported Injuries
The driver of the big rig involved in the first accident was identified as 63-year-old Roger Lee Miller of Norco. Miller was uninjured in the initial accident. However, the driver of the Ford F-250 pickup truck, 33-year-old Thomas Aaron Bauman of Ceres, was hospitalized for his injuries at the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
The driver of the bobtail truck, Antonio Rios, did not suffer injuries in the second collision. The driver of the Honda and the big rig operator both complained of pain but declined medical treatment from emergency personnel. Unfortunately, the passenger of the bobtail truck, Trinidad Gonzalez of Sunnyside, Washington, was transported to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for injury treatment.
Truck Accident Statistics
Accidents involving large commercial trucks are on the rise throughout the United States, especially in California. In fact, a report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) revealed that 3,852 parties were fatally injured in truck accidents in 2015 alone. The area of concern for these accidents is that large trucks tend to weigh twenty to thirty times as much as passenger vehicles. This evidently increases the risk of injury or death to occupants of passenger vehicles. If you or a member in your family has suffered significant harm as a result of a truck accident, it is important to contact a seasoned Merced car accident lawyer to secure fair compensation for your damages.
