Two-Vehicle Crashes and Their Common Causes

When a serious crash involving two vehicles occurs in a vehicle collision, determining fault is vital for injured parties to ensure they receive the deserved compensation. An accident attorney can play a crucial role in investigating the collision to establish negligence, which is necessary for filing a compensation claim. Common negligent behaviors leading to such accidents include:

  • Distracted driving, such as eating and drinking, chatting with passengers, or accessing GPS, is a major problem that can remove motorists from their focus on the road.
  • Tailgating, resulting in the following vehicle colliding with the one in front.
  • Failing to reduce speed in time as traffic slows, leading to rear-end collisions.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol causes erratic behavior such as alternating speeds and lane weaving, which often results in an accident.
  • Changing lanes without signaling, leading to a collision with another vehicle.

Gathering Evidence to Support an Injury Claim

An accident attorney needs to thoroughly investigate a Wilton vehicle collision to identify the negligent party. It is critical to gather compelling evidence to back up a compensation claim, as without strong evidence, the chances of a successful claim diminish. Here are the essential steps for collecting evidence post-collision:

Collecting Evidence to Support a Client’s Claim

Evidence is crucial for insurance companies or juries to compensate the injured fairly. After a Wilton vehicle collision, evidence is collected through several methods:

  • Interviewing witnesses, who may provide crucial details about how the accident occurred.
  • Gathering any videos taken by witnesses at the scene, as these offer powerful evidence.
  • Collecting photographs of the accident scene and other pertinent evidence.
  • Investigating whether the crash was recorded by nearby businesses or traffic cameras, which can be subpoenaed for use in civil cases or insurance negotiations.
  • Conducting accident reconstruction to establish the positions and movements of the vehicles before and during the crash.
  • Verifying the accuracy of the police report, as any discrepancies can affect the claim’s success.

Compensation in an Accident

If a negligent driver caused your accident injuries, you have the right to recover compensation. Recoverable compensation includes all the medical bills that arose as a result of your injury. You can also recover wages you lost from being unable to work, compensation for your pain and suffering and others.
