State Route 51 Accident Causes at Least One Injury
An injury accident in Sacramento involving six vehicles occurred recently. The collision happened along southbound State Route 51 just north of the El Camino Avenue exit ramp around 3:13 p.m. and was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). All six vehicles, including a Ford Edge, Nissan Altima, a pickup, and two others, ended up in the center divider.
One Person Transported to Hospital in Injury Accident
First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department determined that at least one person was injured in the accident. That patient was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and further treatment. Tow trucks were required to remove some of the vehicles, which sustained damage in the crash. An investigation is being conducted by the CHP to determine how the injury accident occurred.
Multiple-Vehicle Injury Accident
Multiple-vehicle accidents frequently occur most often on high capacity, high-speed roads. Because of the speed limit and the volume, drivers are packed in and unable to make maneuvers that could avoid a collision. Many times, a multiple-vehicle injury accident begins with a rear-end crash. As the vehicle to the rear hits the car in front, it pushes it into the auto preceding them. In addition, the car or truck behind the rear-ending vehicle may collide with another as it swerves into an adjacent lane, trying to avoid an accident.
Who Is Liable in a Multiple-Vehicle Injury Accident?
The answer to this depends on several factors. Usually, it is assumed that it is the original negligent driver’s fault, leading to a rear-end crash. In many cases, this is true. However, the lead vehicle may lack brake lights so that when it slows down, the driver to the rear will not be forewarned. Alternately, the driver to the rear still assumes part of the fault since they are bound to travel at a speed and distance that would enable them to avoid hitting the lead vehicle.
Law firms such as ours will assign legal investigators and experts to determine the fault or lack of liability for each driver involved in the crash. This is done in a variety of ways, as you will see in a subsequent section. Nonetheless, a multiple-vehicle crash is complicated and requires sufficient investigatory efforts. Be sure to contact an experienced car accident lawyer for assistance.
Responsibility in a Chain Reaction
As stated above, determining fault in a multi-car crash may be complicated. If one of the drivers admits fault, then it will be a simpler task to assign liability. However, that rarely happens, and in most cases, computer models of the accident are used to envision who is liable.
Types of Evidence in a Multiple-Vehicle Injury Accident
The types of evidence that are needed in a chain reaction crash are diverse. Videos of the accident are helpful and can be obtained from traffic surveillance cameras and dash cams. Photographs taken at the accident site as well as the condition of the road and weather are all useful in determining liability. Vehicles involved in the crash also need to be examined to see if any manufacturing defects contributed to the accident.
Investigating a Multiple-Vehicle Crash
As seen above, gathering evidence is crucial to the successful outcome of an injury accident. At our firm, we begin by talking to witnesses who saw the accident and use crash reconstruction techniques. We look for and obtain video captured of the crash and review police reports for accuracy and mistakes. We examine the roadway for evidence of the impact. Once all the evidence is gathered, our investigative team releases it to our injury lawyers, who use the data to construct a strong case for our client.
