Accidents at Intersections
Injuries at intersections account for roughly 50 percent of all collisions. Cars, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bicyclists converge in an intersection, heightening the danger. Here are a few examples of reckless behavior at intersections:
- Left-hand turns: The act of making a left-hand turn without looking carefully for oncoming traffic, and those who are turning at the intersection often cause major injuries.
- Right-hand turns: An accident can occur when turning right at an intersection without checking the left.
- Red lights: People who run red lights will likely be non-parents and young drivers. However, running a red light can cause a T-bone crash, often resulting in severe injuries.
- Driving while intoxicated: Intoxicated drivers have difficulty judging distances and may not even realize they are coming up on a stop sign or traffic light that has turned red. Drunk driving negligence can cause an accident in an intersection.
- Speeding: The driver who speeds will not be able to stop in time to avoid an accident in an intersection. Speeding also leads to vehicle loss of control.
- Governmental negligence: When the city does not maintain an intersection properly, the agency responsible for upkeep may be liable for an accident. Pruning back overhanging tree branches and bushes and ensuring that signage is in good condition helps. The timing and function of street and traffic lights and lane markings are also important. A claim can be filed against the government agency if it fails to fulfill its responsibilities. There is a shorter time frame of six months to file this type of lawsuit compared to others. You can trust your injury lawyer to file all documents promptly and carefully.
An Investigation of an Intersection Accident
It is important to consult an experienced lawyer following an accident injury caused by another driver or negligent entity.
