Accident Reported at Goethe Road Intersection

An intersection accident in Rosemont caused an injury when two vehicles collided on May 17. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified of the crash by the automated accident notification system on a Ford Explorer that was hit shortly after 10:00 a.m. at Goethe and Mayhew roads. When the CHP arrived at the scene, the woman in the Explorer said that someone hit her car, but that vehicle had apparently left the scene.

Intersection Accident Being Investigated

Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department reported that an injury had occurred as a result of the intersection collision. No information was provided on whether that patient was treated at the scene or taken to a hospital. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Delayed Symptoms in an Intersection Accident

Intersections are common locations for traffic collisions, with around 40 percent of all accidents occurring there. Although some might be considered fender benders, a collision even at a low speed can cause serious injuries. Because of the excitement and stress at the time of an intersection accident, injury symptoms can be delayed for up to several days.

Delayed symptoms are why it’s always a good idea for anyone who has been involved in an intersection crash to go to seek medical attention as soon as possible to get checked out. In this way, if symptoms arise a few days later, the injured party has a record of it. Some delayed symptoms include:

  • Neck pain: Neck pain can indicate cervical strain or sprain, commonly called whiplash or damage to the spinal cord. Symptoms can include soreness, limited range of motion, pain, stiffness, swelling, or nausea.
  • Tingling and numbness: Another symptom of cervical strain or sprain, the feeling of pins and needles in the extremities, or numbness can indicate nerve injury.
  • Headaches: Headaches following an intersection accident can be common and go away. However, continued headaches or those of increasing severity can indicate a traumatic brain injury or injury to the neck or head.
  • Behavioral changes: Changes in behavior or personality may indicate a brain injury. It can include loss of memory, problems with hearing or vision, or depression.
  • Abdominal injury: Pain in the abdominal area, bruising, fainting, or dizziness may indicate internal bleeding or damage to an organ. This life-threatening event usually requires surgical intervention.
  • Back pain: Back pain may indicate soft tissue damage, a sprain, herniated disc or be a symptom of whiplash.

Investigation of an Intersection Accident

All accidents where claims are placed for compensation have to be investigated to collect evidence. Our investigators begin by going to the accident site. Among their areas of evidence gathering are:

  • The investigators look for evidence in the area such as paint from the vehicle, broken pieces of metal, tread marks and others.
  • The police report is examined to ensure its accuracy.
  • Witnesses are interviewed. In some cases, a witness may have filmed the accident.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed.
  • Area traffic surveillance cameras are examined to see if any of them captured the intersection accident on film.

When the evidence has been gathered, our injury attorneys go to work in building a strong case that benefits our client’s compensation claim.
