One Person Injured in Hillsdale Boulevard Intersection Crash
An intersection crash between two vehicles in Sacramento on January 30 left one person with major injuries. The collision occurred at Hillsdale Boulevard and Walerga Road around 6:12 in the evening, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Two Toyotas were involved in the accident, which blocked the intersection and the southbound lanes of Hillsdale Boulevard.
Injured Party Transported to Hospital for Treatment
First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department rushed to the scene to assess injuries. It was determined that one person had suffered major injuries, and the patient was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the intersection accident to determine fault.
Causes of an Intersection Crash
Intersections are bustling locations with traffic coming and going in all directions. If motorists obey the rules of the road the way they should, they would be in a safe place. However, because of negligent motorists, around four out of every 10 accidents occur at intersections. Some of the reasons for this include;
- Tailgating: Following the car too closely in front is reckless behavior and one that is common. Because the vehicle to the rear cannot stop in time if the traffic slows, it often causes a rear-end collision. Such collisions cause cervical strain and sprain, often referred to as whiplash. The symptoms of whiplash usually resolve in six months, but they can continue for a year or more.
- Failure to yield the right of way: This usually happens when a vehicle is making a left or right-hand turn. The driver already in traffic has the right of way and should be allowed to pass before another vehicle begins turning. Otherwise, it can cause an intersection crash.
- Speeding: Driving beyond the speed limit can cause drivers to lose control or to be unable to stop when another car or pedestrian is crossing.
- Changing lanes erratically: Many drivers change lanes erratically because the motorist is trying to reach their destination quickly. This presupposes that others don’t have the same rights as they do and is often labeled aggressive driving.
- Turning improperly: Making a turn that is improper can lead to an accident at an intersection.
- Running a red light: This is one of the most frequent types of behavior that results in an intersection crash.
- Drunk driving: Inebriated drivers are unable to understand the complexities of an intersection and often make the wrong choice. They also have difficulty determining speed and distance, which can lead to an intersection accident.
- Distracted driving: When a driver is not focusing on the road but rather on a device, he or she will more than likely be unaware of another vehicle or pedestrian in their path.
Investigating an Intersection Crash
Because of their complexity, an intersection collision requires experienced investigators at the scene of the accident. At our law firm, we send our investigative team to the accident site as soon as possible. They use accident reconstruction techniques to determine the placement of the vehicles and pedestrians at the time of the collision.
Our investigators also look for video footage of the intersection crash from private individuals, traffic surveillance and business security cameras. This is a vital tool in proving negligence. They speak to witnesses who saw the accident happen and review police reports for inaccuracies. Once all of the evidence is gathered, it is presented to our injury attorneys to build a case for obtaining financial compensation for the losses you incurred.
