El Camino Avenue Intersection Injury Collision Reported in Arden-Arcade
An intersection crash on May 27 in Sacramento County resulted in back injuries to one person. The collision happened in Arden-Arcade at the intersection of El Camino and Morse avenues around 10:39 in the morning for an unknown reason. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that it occurred between a Kia and SUV.
Additional Information About the Intersection Crash
The individual in the Kia allegedly suffered a back injury, and emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were summoned to the scene. It was not reported whether the injured party was treated at the intersection crash site or transported to a hospital. The CHP is in charge of investigating the accident to find out why it happened.
Back Injuries Caused by an Intersection Crash
Back injuries can occur during an intersection accident because this area of the body absorbs the shock of impact. An injury to the back may be minor with strained muscles and ligaments, or it may be more serious and cause a long-lasting disability. The following represents some of the most common types of back injuries caused by an accident:
- Cervical strain or sprain is the most common type of injury caused in an accident, especially in an intersection crash. Commonly called whiplash, it can not only cause neck pain and stiffness but also headaches and can result in muscle spasms in the arms and shoulders. While many cases clear up in a month or two, some become a chronic, debilitating condition.
- A herniated disc occurs when it shifts from the force of the impact, resulting in numbness or pain down the leg. In some cases, surgery is required to repair the disc. In others, they are treated with non-surgical methods.
- Fractures may occur and might be caused by the seat restraint since part of the body is held immobile while the rest continues to move. A spinal fracture can cause pain, muscle weakness, and bladder problems. Some require surgical intervention to repair.
- A spinal cord injury can result in temporary or permanent paralysis, depending on the extent of trauma.
- Traumatic spondylolisthesis occurs when a vertebra moves onto the vertebra below it and is caused by an accident. Nonsurgical options are used to treat many with this condition.
Recovery of Compensation Following a Back Injury
Because a back injury can be long-lasting and debilitating, the injured party may find themselves discapacitated for some time. A personal injury attorney may be able to help them place a claim against the at-fault person or entity that caused their accident. This allows the injured person to recover damages for all of their medical expenses associated with the intersection crash, their pain and suffering and their lost wages.
