Accident on State Route 12 Kills Driver Involved in Accident With Semi
An intersection fatality happened near Isleton in Sacramento County on January 3 following a two-vehicle collision. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the accident as occurring between a Hyundai Accent and tractor-trailer at the intersection of State Route 12 and Jackson Slough Road around 2:24 in the afternoon. Both east and westbound lanes were shut down, and a SigAlert issued.
Intersection Fatality Reported in South Sacramento
The county coroner arrived at the scene to pronounce one person deceased as a result of the collision. The man was later identified as Danny Walker. The Hyundai reportedly crashed into the tractor-trailer, according to the River Delta Fire District. The vehicle sustained major front-end damage and was towed away as evidence in the case. The roadway was cleared around 5:30 p.m. The intersection accident is being investigated by authorities to determine how it happened.
The Dangers of Intersection Collisions
Anytime a large number of vehicles converge in one location, it is a ripe area for accidents. Serious injuries or a fatality at an intersection can occur for the following reasons:
- A driver who is distracted or inebriated rear-ends another vehicle that is stopped at a red light. This can easily cause an intersection fatality by pushing the first vehicle into oncoming traffic.
- A speeding driver may not be able to stop at a light when it suddenly changes to red and passes into the intersection, broadsiding another vehicle. Because the sides of a passenger vehicle are weaker than the front or back, it can easily cause an intersection fatality.
- A driver who makes an unsafe turn can cause an intersection fatality. By turning left unsafely, they can cause a collision with an oncoming car. By turning right without a clear view, they can be struck in the rear.
- Making an illegal U-turn in an intersection can cause an accident with serious injuries or fatalities.
Overwhelming Family Grief
Learning that a loved one has been killed in an accident is one of the hardest things a family can face. Suddenly their world is thrown upside down as they try to deal with grief and other emotions. They wonder how this could have happened to someone they love and how they are going to move forward without them. Many turn to friends and other family members as well as clergy for solace. - Let them know that you are available to accompany them to the funeral parlor for end of life arrangements. This is a very difficult time for any family.
