I-5 Hit-and-Run Causes Pedestrian Fatality

A pedestrian fatality was reported on August 27 in Sacramento involving a hit-and-run driver. The crash happened along northbound Interstate 5 close to the American River Parkway neighborhood around 4:15 a.m. Officers with the North Sacramento California Highway Patrol (CHP) reached the scene after receiving a report of a pedestrian accident and found the woman along the right-hand shoulder of the road.

The pedestrian was identified as 32-year-old Angelina Irene Parsons. She was declared dead at the accident scene. Police believe the woman was attempting to cross the freeway when a hit-and-run driver struck her in the exit lane to Garden Highway.

Authorities Release Description of Vehicle in Hit-and-Run

Authorities believe the vehicle that struck the woman, caused the pedestrian fatality and fled the scene may be a 2016-2018 Chevy Malibu or other similar model. The vehicle probably shows damage to its front end. CHP traffic accident investigators are asking that any witnesses to the fatal accident call them at (916) 861-2300 or (916) 861-1300.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim

When someone dies due to the careless or negligent actions of someone else, the surviving immediate family member such as the spouse and children may file a wrongful death claim. In addition to recovering funeral and burial expenses, the family may also obtain the decedent’s wages and bonuses of the job until they would have reached retirement age. The surviving spouse may claim compensation for the loss of consortium and affection, and children may recover damages for their loss of a parent. An accident attorney can explain the particulars of recoverable damages for your family.

Hit-and-Run Drivers and How We Locate Them

Families are often devastated when they discover their loved one died in a pedestrian fatality accident because of a hit-and-run driver. After all, a driver who leaves the scene of an accident, especially when there are injuries or fatalities, is showing a lack of respect for that person, and it appears as though they are trying to escape responsibility. This is one of the reasons our accident investigators work so hard to locate that driver. It helps give the family justice for their loss and holds the at-fault party responsible.

Investigative Techniques Following a Pedestrian Fatality

A few of the investigative techniques we use after a wrongful death or injury collision include checking surveillance cameras for footage, searching the scene for metal, pieces of tail or headlights and paint left behind. These can be matched to identify the make and model of the vehicle. We also interview witnesses, examine the police record and other techniques such as checking body shops for recent repairs.
