A two-vehicle car accident occurred along southbound Interstate 5 in Sacramento on June 6 that left one person with injuries. The accident occurred around 11:45 in the morning near the exit ramp for Garden Highway. The Dodge Ram and Honda that crashed left one vehicle with major front-end damage and blocked the two right lanes of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Reasons for Automobile Crashes
The majority of car crashes are due to human error. The following are the most common causes of car crashes:
- Distracted driving: This behavior has become the leading cause of car crashes. It is common to see someone talking on a cell phone or eating while driving. The problem is that for every second a driver’s eyes are off the road, the higher the risk of a car accident. An activity where the driver’s eyes and hands are involved, such as when a person is texting increases the risk.
- Speeding: This is the most common error after driving distracted. Speeding causes the driver to lose control over his or her vehicle and makes it harder to stop when necessary.
- Drunk driving: This is another cause of a car accident. An inebriated driver loses the ability to make quick decisions and respond to them appropriately. Approximately 10,000 people are killed annually by drunk drivers in the United States.
- Reckless driving: This can range from aggressive driving to changing lanes repeatedly. It is best not to respond in kind to a reckless driver. Instead, motorists are encouraged to stay out of their way even if it means slowing down and letting them pass.
- Running a red light: This happens at intersections. The problem is intersections are complex busy places. Running a red light can end in a fatal accident or one with serious traumatic injuries. Drivers who do this are generally in a hurry.
- Driving in inclement weather: Most drivers need to get where they are going despite the weather. However, there are ways a driver can stay safe even in bad weather. One way is to lower the speed at which the vehicle is traveling. By doing this, it makes it possible to maintain control and be able to stop in time to avoid a car accident. Inexperienced drivers have the biggest problem when driving in inclement weather. Look to more experienced drivers for help.
- Nighttime driving: Taking to the road at night is difficult for many people. It is important to use headlights wisely.
Investigating a Two-Vehicle Car Accident
Our firm considers investigating a car accident one of the most important ways to help a client obtain the compensation they deserve. We begin by sending our investigative team to the accident site. The investigators interview witnesses and use accident reconstruction techniques. They also obtain videos of the car accident from traffic surveillance cameras and local businesses. In addition, they examine the police report for mistakes. Once this data is collected, our lawyers use it to build a strong case for our clients.
