Interstate 80 Delays
Interstate 80 Delays
I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento motorcycle accident attorney. I cannot emphasize enough how hectic our weekend travel is projected to be. Please take notice of the following lane closures and select alternate routes. Also, give yourself plenty of extra time to get to your destination. Delays of up to 45 minutes are expected through a series of lane closures.
Serious Traffic Alert for Sacramento this Friday 6:00 pm – Monday 5:00 a.m.
Officials have put out an alert about major Interstate 80 delays in the northern most portions of Sacramento this weekend. The delays along I-80 are due to construction being performed that will cause multiple lane closures.
Message From State Highway Officials
Officials from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be closing two out of three westbound lanes along the freeway and also the westbound ramps onto Interstate 80 from I-5 in Natomas.
Drivers should expect (and not be surprised) to be delayed up to 45 minutes along the stretch of freeway under construction.
In fact, if at all possible, Caltrans wants motorists to avoid the westbound lanes of travel through northern Sacramento.
Start Date of Lane Closures
The closures will begin on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. and continue through Monday at 5:00 a.m.
Only One Lane Will Remain Open
Officials said that throughout the coming weekend only one lane along westbound Interstate 80 will be open.
The one lane that will be open will be a make-shift temporary express lane. The open lane will sit between two concrete barriers. It will be completely separated from the two other westbound lanes. The two other westbound local lanes will be shut down west of the interchange for Truxel Road. That closure extends to a point a little west of the West El Camino Avenue interchange.
There Will Also Be Interstate 5 Ramp Closures
Ramp closures will also be happening on Interstate 5, prohibiting motorists driving on that stretch of freeway from making their way onto westbound Interstate 80.
Crews will be working there to get rid of and replace about 1300 feet of two lanes of freeway. Thankfully, work crews anticipate having that project completed before Monday morning commute starts.
Officials Believe This is It – Across The Top Project 95 Percent Complete
Officials from Caltrans believe this to be the final large scale lane closure for the Across The Top highway rebuilding project.
The $133 million dollar project that has spanned some five years is 95 percent complete.
As you will recall, its goal was to tear out and replace about 10 miles of highway between Watt Avenue (on the east side) and the Sacramento River (on the west side). It also included construction of the new carpool or high-occupancy lanes in each direction of travel.
Some much smaller fixes will still be transpiring over the next few weeks. Final completion is said to be mid-November.
