Legal Update Involving Harrison Ford’s Broken Leg Injury

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Bone Fracture Attorney. A company that produces films admitted to safety and health breaches over an accident that occurred on the film set of “Star Wars – The Force Awakens” that badly fractured the leg of star Harrison Ford.

What Happened?

Harrison Ford was hit by a hydraulic door on the Millennium Falcon set — his Han Solo character’s spaceship. The injury happened at Pinewood Studios located near London in June of 2014.

Airlifted From Set to the Hospital For Surgery

The actor had to be airlifted to a hospital for emergency surgery.

Hearing On the Accident Matter

A hearing was conducted at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court in Britain. During the proceedings, a prosecutor claimed the hydraulic door “could have killed somebody” had the emergency lever not been activated. Britain’s Health & Safety Official indicated the metal-framed hydraulic door hit the actor with a power force comparable to the weight of a small automobile.

Production Company Admits Health and Safety Breaches

Foodles Production Limited, owned by the Walt Disney Company has admitted two breaches of safety and health law. Its lawyer, Angus Withington, indicated that Foodles Production, Ltd. is planning to contest the level of risk involved. The company is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
