Lincoln Car Accident Statistics
I’m Ed Smith, a Lincoln car accident lawyer. Lincoln is a relatively small city lacking the hustle and bustle of larger cities like Sacramento. However, just because there may not be as much traffic on Lincoln’s streets doesn’t mean that area drivers aren’t liable to be involved in vehicle accidents.
If you spend time driving in Lincoln, you may be interested in the car accident statistics included in the blog below.
Collision Overview
According to reports by researchers at UC Berkeley, there were 440 car accidents leading to injuries in the city of Lincoln between the beginning of 2010 and the end of 2016. This means that the city of Lincoln has about half as many injury accidents per capita as does the county of Placerville as a whole.
Of the 440 accidents, 31 (7 percent) of them involved pedestrians, 32 (7.3 percent) involved bicycles, 47 (10.7 percent) involved motorcycles, and the remaining 330 involved either large trucks or regular passenger vehicles. Additionally, 118 (26.8 percent) of the collisions occurred on state-operated highways within the city limits.
Collisions by Severity
Accidents in the city of Lincoln tend to be less severe. Of the injury-causing collisions between 2010 and 2016, only 8 resulted in fatal injuries, accounting for around 1.8 percent of total traumatic accidents. This is slightly less than the rate for the county, for which 2.1 percent of collisions were fatal.
After this, 21 (4.8 percent) of Lincoln accidents involved severe injuries, 129 (29.3 percent) involved non-severe visible injuries, and 282 (64 percent) involved only a complaint of pain. Across all categories, Lincoln’s accidents were relatively less severe than those of the county.
Collisions by Type
The most common type of accident to cause injury in Lincoln over the last 7 years has been broadside crashes. A total of 126 broadside collisions were responsible for 29 percent of Lincoln’s 440 accidents.
Rear-end accidents closely followed broadside accidents at 111 accidents accounting for 25 percent of total crashes. The subsequent most common accident types, in order of most common to least common, were hit-object accidents at 18 percent, pedestrian accidents at 7.3 percent, overturn accidents at 5.2 percent, sideswipe accidents at 4.5 percent, and head-on accidents at 3.4 percent.
Collisions by Violations
Accidents are often caused by drivers who violate traffic regulations. In Lincoln, the traffic violation that most often causes injury collisions is, by a wide margin, driving at unsafe speeds. Speeding was the primary factor in 165 (37 percent) of Lincoln’s traumatic crashes over the last 7 years. Other common violations leading to traumatic injuries were traffic sign violations, DUI, and improper turning. For an injury or death caused by a negligent motorist, you may want to reach out to a Lincoln CA car accident lawyer as soon as possible.
