Livestream Music Events: A Creative Solution
Even though many once-shuttered restaurants and barbershops are beginning to open up around the Sacramento area due to the loosening of pandemic restrictions, one type of business that will not be opening up anytime soon is live music venues. For those of us that find joy in seeing our favorite musicians perform live, a disappointing summer concert season is on the horizon.
Thankfully, musicians are a creative bunch, and right away, they thought of an alternative: live-streaming concerts available to watch from home. Not the same, for sure, but it may help tide us music fans over. Following are some upcoming live stream music events; note that all times are West Coast unless otherwise indicated.
Upcoming Events
May 29: Performing to the vacant stands at Fenway Park, The Dropkick Murphys will be appearing with their friend Bruce Springsteen, who will be joining them via remote feed. This concert will feature two songs, one from each band, and will be available on the Dropkick Murphy’s YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and Facebook feed starting at 3:00 p.m.
May 30: From New York, David Guetta will be live-streaming a performance “United at Home” to benefit several charities, including Feeding America, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, Fondation Hopitaux de Paris, and the World Health Organization. The live stream will start following the 7:00 p.m. EST (4:00 p.m. PST) nightly applause for the city’s front-line workers. Guetta’s performance can be streamed via his Twitch, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok feeds.
May 30: Banding Together: A Concert for the Colorado Music Relief Fund features many talented musicians, including The Lumineers, The Avett Brothers, Dave Matthews, and Brandi Carlile. Proceeds from this event will go toward helping the Colorado music industry workers that have been affected by the pandemic. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast and live-streamed on CBS.
June 1: On this date, Katie Crutchfield will begin her new livestream series. She intends to perform all five of her band Waxahatchee’s albums. Through this project, she hopes to help support her band and crew, given the financial difficulties they suffered from the cancelation of all the band’s upcoming shows. The live stream music event will also benefit indie promoters across the country. Shows are on Mondays and begin at 6:00 p.m. at noonchorus.com.
June 6: YouTube will be streaming a virtual commencement ceremony entitled “Dear Class of 2020.” The event will feature performances by Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, BTS, Kelly Rowland, and others. Barack Obama is one of the commencement speakers. The event will begin at 12:00 p.m.
June 7: The 74th annual Tony Awards had to be rescheduled, but this live stream event will highlight Broadway in a special celebration. This one-hour presentation will fundraise for The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. It starts at 3 p.m. and can be viewed on TonyAwards.com and BroadwayOnDemand.com.
June 10: All in WA is a streaming concert to raise money for COVID-19 relief efforts throughout the state of Washington. Performances by Pearl Jam, Macklemore, Dave Matthews, Ben Gibbard, Sir Mix-a-Lot, and other Seattle musicians will be featured. The event will air on local NBC affiliates or is available by stream on Amazon’s Twitch. The concert will also be available on Amazon Prime after the live broadcasts.
