Loomis Woman Almost Saves Drowning Man
A tragic drowning accident occurred on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Lake Natoma in Sacramento. A woman from Loomis attempted to save a man that was drowning in the lake but faced emotional distress after she was unable to rescue him.
What Happened?
A woman from Loomis, identified as Katie Good, was kayaking when she observed a man that was drowning in Lake Natoma. The man was about 4 feet away from Good’s kayak where she removed her life jacket and submerged under the water in her attempts to rescue the drowning man. Unfortunately, Good was unable to save the man and believed that if she had ten more seconds, she could have saved the man’s life. Mike Howard, the Lake Natoma ranger of supervision, stated that the man had drowned in the lake waters that were approximately 30 feet in depth. The man was later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 21-year-old Tu Nghiem from Sacramento.

Lake Natoma and other bodies of water can be very deceiving for their apparent peaceful waters when the waters can be very cold and cause safety concerns for swimmers. Parents that visit Lake Natoma are advised to observe their children at all times. Swimmers are encouraged to wear life jackets in lakes, rivers and even in swimming pools to avoid accidental drowning.
