Pedestrian Accident Involving a Lyft Driver
A Lyft driver reportedly struck a pedestrian while driving in Kearny Mesa, a neighborhood in San Diego. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said it was about 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, when the car vs. pedestrian accident occurred. The Lyft driver, who was traveling in a dark grey Kia, collided with a woman that was crossing Balboa Avenue just near Ruffner Street. The driver was the sole occupant inside the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to officers from the San Diego Police Department. It is not known how fast the driver was traveling upon impact with the pedestrian.
The female sustained major injuries, including brain hemorrhage. She was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. The male driver stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. Despite conflicting information from initial reports of the accident, investigators do not think alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the crash. Balboa Avenue was temporarily shut down in the eastbound direction, stretching from the I-805 to Ruffner Street. An update on the woman’s condition was not readily available.
Getting Injured in a Lyft or Uber Accident: What to do Next
As with any other type of car accident, the first step you should take after a Lyft or Uber accident is to get the names, contact information, and insurance details of all parties involved. Getting the contact information of any eyewitnesses is also a valuable resource. You will also want to use a camera to take pictures of the accident, including the vehicles involved and their immediate surroundings.
Additionally, you will want to get the police involved. Most states have laws that require law enforcement to be alerted to any auto accident that caused bodily injuries or substantial property damage. However, in any collision that involves a Lyft or Uber driver, it’s best to pursue an official investigation as soon as possible. The police report from the investigation will be greatly useful for you to support your injury claim.
Lyft and Uber – and the general rideshare app marketplace – are well-established industries. However, the legal issues that arise as a result of these services are still being refined in the courts. The formal technicalities that occur from a car accident involving someone who was driving for money make the legal situation a lot more complicated. For this reason, if you were injured in an Uber or Lyft accident and had significant losses, you should consider contacting a credible auto accident attorney in your area.
