Major Crash Claims Two Lives Along Sacramento Freeway
On September 14, a significant crash in Sacramento occurred along Interstate 80, and claimed the lives of two people. The accident reportedly occurred at around 12:20 in the afternoon along westbound I-80 and Marysville Boulevard. A SigAlert was issued for about 30 minutes until the site was cleared, and the Raley onramp to westbound 80 was closed. The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to determine what happened.
Details of the Fatal Crash
According to the CHP police log, the accident involved a truck and another pickup that was pulling a travel trailer. The pickup pulling the trailer exited the roadway on the right-hand side and crashed into a tree, causing severe damage to the vehicle and RV. An elderly couple inside the pickup were declared deceased at the scene of the collision.
Facing Grief
Facing grief after a fatal accident is one of the hardest things a family can do. It is even worse when their loved one is taken from them unexpectedly. This can cause grieving family members to ignore their own well-being. It is vital that each person look out for themselves and other members of their family. It is also important to talk about what happened and their feelings as they cope with grief.
Symptoms to Watch for During Grief
Common reactions to a loved one’s wrongful death vary from person to person. Some examples are:
- Anger that a loved one has been taken from them due to another’s negligence is common. This can be helped by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent party, bringing justice to the family.
- Denial is one of the first emotions that people experience. Ultimately, it is followed by acceptance. However, there is a long road between the two reactions.
- Inability to sleep is a common reaction to a loved one’s demise. It helps to maintain a sleep/wake schedule. If insomnia continues, seeking insight from a physician is a good idea.
- Depression that a loved one is gone can be overwhelming for many people. It is important to watch for the signs of depression, especially in the young, to avoid rash actions. If the depression continues, it is often a good idea to seek counseling from a medical professional.
- A sense of numbness often envelopes mourners who feel none of what they are experiencing is real. Often, this fades in time. However, it can persist in many.
- Many people will withdraw from others as a response to grief. Withdrawal from others is not helpful, but it can be a natural response. It is easy to think that others cannot possibly understand what someone is going through. Since grief is universal, that is probably not the truth. Expressing how you feel to friends and family is still the best.
What an Attorney Can Do for You
When our loved ones are involved in a fatal crash, it is necessary to determine how the accident happened. Our firm dispatches an investigative team to the accident site to gather evidence, interview witnesses to the accident and obtain video footage that captures the crash. We also review police reports for accuracy and check to see if auto defects were involved in the accident. Once the data is accumulated, we release it to our legal team who use it to build a case against the at-fault driver or entity.
