Major Head-On Crash Near Merced County

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. A head-on crash occurred near Stevinson during the morning of Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Unfortunately, the accident caused two men to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A 25-year-old Merced man was driving his 2015 Toyota Yaris eastbound along Highway 140 near Weir Avenue at approximately 10:00 am. At the same time, a 33-year-old Atwater man was driving his 2002 Toyota Sienna westbound along Highway 140. For unknown reasons, the Merced man allegedly allowed his vehicle to drift into the westbound lane of the roadway. The Toyota Yaris entered the direct path of the Toyota Sienna, resulting in a serious head-on collision.

What Caused the Crash?

The cause of the car accident is still under investigation. A Traffic Collision Report can take up to two weeks to be processed. However, authorities do not believe that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the car accident. These reports generally list which party was found at fault for an accident. A traffic report may sometimes contain an error or be inconclusive regarding fault. It is important, specifically when a victim has suffered major injuries, to contact an experienced Merced personal injury lawyer to study the accident scene and chain of events leading up to the collision to accurately determine liability.

Were They Injured?

Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that both motorists involved in the accident suffered major injuries. The Merced man was transported via air ambulance to the Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto. The Atwater man was taken to the Memorial Hospital in Los Banos. Authorities stated that both men are expected to recover from their injuries.

Head-On Crashes

Head-on crashes are usually viewed as the most serious type of automobile accident. When vehicles are traveling at high speeds, there is a high risk of fatality. While these accidents only account for a small percentage of all vehicular collisions, they tend to cause victims to suffer traumatic, catastrophic or even fatal injuries. The nature of injuries received from the impact can vary on factors such as the rate of speed traveled by each automobile, vehicle safety features, and a person’s size and seating position in the car. These accidents may result in injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, bone fractures, cervical disc injury, chest trauma and abdominal trauma. Contact an experienced Merced personal injury lawyer if you suffered injuries due to the negligence of someone else.
